[Mustang Evolution] Propane Roush Victory in Milan

The Roush Drag Team should be proud of their fellow teammate and driver, Dannie Bowles, for becoming the first driver on his team to bring a  liquid propane-powered Mustang to victory at the Milan Dragway in Michigan. This win came during the elimination rounds at the 4th annual NMCA Muscle Car Nationals on August 29th.

The win did not come easily as a problem presented itself. At first, Bowles came out swinging with a perfect 0.000 reaction time which ranked him at the very top of the other 36 competitors in the Open Comp class. During the third round a crack in the “wishbone” was discovered, possibly caused by a burnout Friday night in the burnout box where a tire may have hooked and the body may have rolled possibly causing it.. The problem was not apparent until this third round run. Luckily, it was a single pass run so he was able to baby it down the strip until he could get the car off the track and quickly repair it for his next pass.

Six rounds later and Bowles had beat out Adam Samfilippo for the win. He ran a 10.580 at 121.00 mph which scored the win by a meer 0.01 second. After his satisfying victory, Bowles beamed, “It was very satisfying to get the first win for the ROUSH Powered by Propane Drag Team. My teammate Susan (Roush-McClenaghan) and I have both gone to final rounds this year, but haven’t quite been able to close the deal until this weekend at Milan. It required a total team effort, as we faced our share of challenges on Sunday. An earlier oil pressure issue on my car was traced back to a defective filter, then as I was preparing for the third elimination round we discovered a broken suspension component. Fortunately, I was unopposed and with the help of Billy Gilsbach of Gilsbach Racecraft, we completed repairs just before the next round of racing.â€�
